We were alerted to a deceased cat along Cuxton Road near Hawthorn Road this morning. We attended as soon as we could and checked for a chip. The cat was chipped. Unfortunately there were no owner details registered on the chip so we rang up the database to see if there were any implanter details stored, there wasn’t.
So we wrapped the baby up, gave him a kiss and cuddle and started to ring around nearby vets. We rang up Easipetcare vets in Chatham and they checked their systems, this little baby was on their in house computer and never registered on a UK approved microchip database.
This little boy was around 8 months old and did live nearby, so we rang the phone number but it just rang out, so we went door knocking. Because it was around 8:45am we assumed that the owners had probably gone off to work, so we rang again leaving a message for someone to contact us and we will try again later in the day.
At approximately 17:35 this evening we received a call from the owner. We explained what had happened with their little Eric, the owners were absolutely distraught with the news.
Eric was collected by the owners this evening and taken back home.
We would like to thank Jane for reporting to us.
Rest in paws heaven little darling Eric xxxx
If you have ever had a microchip implanted and haven’t received any paperwork or email welcoming your baby to the microchip database then please please call the implanter ASAP and make sure the chip is registered. The money you pay for a chip to be implanted is for the chip to be implanted and registered on a UK approved microchip database.
Our thoughts are with Eric’s family at this sad time. X
