We did a chip and snip day in Rainham last month and one of the ladies that was there with her friend said in passing to us that she was feeding a mum cat who had babies. We said we would happily help trap mum and babies and get mum neutered. This lady has been so helpful and managed to contain all the babies herself, tame them and mum!
She got in touch today and said mum is contained in a dog crate and the more nervous bigger baby was in there with her, the other two babies were walking and playing around in her porch.
We attended to help take mum and babies so we could get mum spayed….. Well we thought it was just one mum and two babies, but digging a little into the history of them it was a little different. She had 3 litters altogether, one was the bigger kitten that was nervous and two babies from her third litter. The one baby from her first litter had got her pregnant with the third litter!
So we have an uncle/daddy cat to set a trap for (the finder is going to try and contain him also but he is extremely nervous) and the mum cat could be early stages of pregnancy again.
Mum isn’t feeding the babies anymore so we have separated them all out, all have had flea/worm treatment and we will be ringing around vets to get mum booked in to get her spayed and checked over.
Please neuter your babies, it does them a world of good and stops interbreeding like this. Thankfully all the babies look healthy, but we have seen what can happen in some cases.
